One of the most famous deep-sea animals around, the Anglerfish has a “fishing pole” coming out of its heads. Each species has its own unique rod and lure – in fact, instead of using energy to chase food, hungry anglerfish puts out its bioluminescent bait and waits.
The anglerfish’s glowing tip entices small fish to come closer, then it opens its large mouth and sharp teeth with snap shut for dinner! The maximum size of an anglerfish is 1.2 metres; it can usually be found 2,500 meters in midwater or on the seafloor.
