Iguanas are herbivorous, large lizards native to the Americas and Mexico. There are currently 35 species of iguana. Similar to other reptiles, iguanas are cold-blooded, egg-laying creatures.
The average lifespan of an iguana is 4 to 60 years, depending on the type of species. Some iguanas prefer to live in trees, such as the green iguanas of Central and South America as they are farmed for food there, so need a hiding spot.
